NGO Youth Power, in cooperation with the MasterPeace Foundation, organized a one-day summit “Great Minds Meeting” in Mostar on June 28, 2019. The aim of the summit was to build a sustainable community through various workshops, performances and lectures, to inspire participants with business stories and to make new connections between local and international organizations.
The Summit hosted 5 workshops simultaneously in two parts led by many inspirational speakers from different countries in Europe, Morocco and Egypt. Local partners of the Youth Power NGO and representatives of the Embassy of the Netherlands were also present at the summit. The Great Minds Meeting is traditionally held in the Netherlands, and this year was organized for the first time in Mostar.
Program manager for Youth Power NGO Nedim Mičijević said that these kind of events are trying to encourage young people to embark on some alternative activities and try to come up with some ideas of their own.
“We have an opportunity to see how sustainable communities can be built through non-formal education. The concept we present today is a concept that comes from many different spheres of society. We try to offer young people and other visitors to learn how sustainable communities can be built through fostering entrepreneurship among young people, through music and the arts. An event like this and similar activities are trying to support young people to start some alternative activities, not to sit at home and not to say that they have no work and that they can do nothing, but to try to come up with some ideas themselves, ”Nedim said.
“There are many young people who do not believe in politics, who think that there are no business opportunities for them, and especially in Bosnia and Herzegovina and I think this problem is represented here. Young people need to use their talents and skills to build their perspective, and the best way to do this is through music and storytelling, ”said Aart Bos, CEO of MasterPeace.
