On the occasion of the International Day of Peace, Youth Power dedicated this entire week to the promotion of peace and kindness through various activities that they were posting daily on social networks. Through all the activities they did, they tried to remind the public to forget all the differences that divide us and that create hatred between us, this week was dedicated only to peace and togetherness.

Youth Power regularly celebrates the International Day of Peace every year with various street actions, but this year they decided to dedicate a whole week to spreading peace through several street and online campaigns.

The first and perhaps the biggest street action we organized took place on the Old Bridge in Mostar. Volunteers from the NGO Youth Power lighted twenty lanterns in the hope that one day all conflict and hatred would disappear in the city of Mostar and around the world. The main message of this campaign was: “Let all wars of this world fly away and disappear, like this beautiful sky lanterns. Let’s make this dark sky shiny today, let’s try this every night of every day. We invite all dreamers to join us, let’s dream all together. Maybe others will do the same … “

The action attracted the attention of many passers-by who used their cameras to record every moment of the action. The video posted on the Instagram profile of the NGO Youth Power already has over 6,000 views.

The second action was aimed at erasing the negative content, graffiti, in the city of Mostar and changing them into something positive. The aim of the action was to remind the local population to be kind to each other and to remind them that only through love and togetherness we can progress.

One of the Youth Power volunteers said how this kind of actions are important for society.

“I think that these kind of activities are of great importance, especially in the area of Mostar, because we know what division in the city unfortunately rules. We should not only promote peace today, but every day, and that is what we will try to do in the next few months. ” – said Ajla Memić

The International Day of Peace was established by the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) in 1981 with the aim of marking and strengthening the ideals of peace among all nations and states. After discussions on the introduction of the “Day of Peace” and what it should represent, it was concluded that it will exist to continuously remind the need to strengthen peace messages and ideas among all peoples and nations.
