Youth Power, together with Carousel 8 and NVO Glas, has organized Erasmus+ training course “Media literacy in light of political participation and engagement in democratic processes” in Split in period from August 1st and August 13th, where 30 participants gathered to raise their competences and skills for development, implementation and evaluation of youth work activities through programs focused on democracy, political participation and media literacy. 

Training course activities were focused on media literacy, to improve participants knowledge about media literacy and how to raise critical thinking in the youngsters, how should youngsters seek for information and how should they inform themselves when it comes to the political system and current political issues. 

Training course started with discussion what media literacy is and general situation with the media and their involvement in politics and democratic values. After this activity participants tried to demonstrate media reality through activities and conversation and the world we live in.

Participants had opportunity to be part of workshops where they were learning how to use information properly from the media that they provide, how to evaluate sources of information and their credibility.

Discussion about the media and its connection with politics was held. Whole workshop was based on the relationship between media and politics, fake news and tools that we can use for fact-checking.

This activity was concluded with workshop related to development of activities with youth for local communities. Participants had task to create their own ideas for their local communities and present them to others. Final act of this training was YouthPass ceremony. 

This activity is implemented within „Critical thinking and participation as a foundation of democracy in Europe” (CRITIDE) project where Youth Power, together with partner organizations Carousel 8 and NVO Glas, is the main facilitator and coordinator for all activities. This project is founded by European Union under Erasmus+ programm.
