Youth Power has organised “Online and e-learning in youth work” Erasmus+ training course in Berlin, from January 9 – 15, where participants from 4 partner countries gathered to expand their knowledge about online and e-learning in youth work. The main goal of this activity was to support the participating youth workers and educational trainers in developing their competences as youth trainers / educators / providers of non-formal education in delivering trainings for other staff of the, youth centres and youth organisations, youth workers, youth leaders and youngsters peer educators on developing online and e-learning in youth work.
First day of the training course went more in a relaxing way. Like usual, the first session was more about getting to know each other, we talked about our expectations for this training course and we talked about Erasmus+ programme and YouthPass in general. Later we concluded the day with team building activity “Treasure Hunt”. The main goal of this activity was to connect participants and to motivate them to work together as a team.
After the first day, we started with the main topic of this training course and that’s e-learning. We did a “What is e-learning” session where participants were introduced more about e-learning in general, definition of it and what are the principles of e-learning. After this session, we got more into the topic of online learning systems. Participants developed a basic understanding of what online learning systems are, analysed some of the systems they had experience with and learned about benefits and drawbacks of different systems.
Thursday and Friday were reserved for the process of the development of online courses. First they did an introductory session, they developed basic understanding about different types of learning and their adaptation to e-learning. After the introductory session, they first did a workshop about need analysis. They had the opportunity to learn about different ways of need analysis and to detect the objectives and outcomes, and target group of e-learning. After this workshop, they learned about online course design, how to design an online course, storyboard of it and what activities to include.
Last two days, participants spent on creating their own online e-learning platforms. Divided into groups, they had a task to create an online e-learning course based on previous knowledge they had and knowledge they acquired during this training course. We were amazed by participants creativity of how good their online platforms were and they only had one day to create everything.
This activity is implemented within the „Learning in Youth Work of 21st Century” project where Youth Power, together with partner organizations Carousel 8 and Institut za razvoj civilnog društva, is the main facilitator and coordinator for all activities. This project was funded by the European Union under Erasmus+ programme.
