PROJECT NAME: “Sport methodology in youth work for inclusion of immigrants”

AMOUNT OF GRANT: 23.416,00 EUROS

In Europe there are serious problems with intercultural dialogue and acceptance of differences due to wars and economic migration to the EU. We live in situations where migrants are somehow integrated into society, interethnic and other differences between people cause prejudices / tensions, hatred, fear and exclusion in everyday life.

In our youth work for inclusion and intercultural acceptance we have noticed that sport can bring together people because when playing together for the same team, team players are not focused on interrelated, intercultural, interreligious and other differences between them, but focused on building a good teamwork , respecting each other’s strengths and weaknesses and completing each other.

Unfortunately, so far, when trying to systematically organize youth sports activities with asylum seekers, refugees and immigrants, partners could not find enough young workers in the field of work with immigrants and the principles of using sports activities as a method in NFO / youth work.

This project responds to these needs and aims to encourage our youth workers to develop more youth sport projects that will explore and distinguish all possible positive aspects of sports for the development of consistent positive intercultural acceptance among our users and inclusion of refugees, immigrants and other marginalized and discriminated young people in our communities.

Project objectives and training courses are:

  • Share our realities with immigrant inclusion and acceptance situations in our communities and various youth programs working on it
  • Discussion and understanding of the basic concepts, values and principles of inclusion and intercultural learning
  • Promoting and researching the concepts of “sports for all” and “healthy lifestyle” in relation to youth work
  • Investigate youth work and youth trainings with regard to inclusion / acceptance and sport for all
  • Raise competences in organizing quality youth work with sports methodology with adequate mental and physical development of users as well as competition and team work through sport
  • Exchanging various sport methods useful for our youth work in everyday work with youth and immigrants
  • Increase competencies for adapting sport methods to NFO / youth work for inclusion and acceptance of immigrants
  • Defining and developing basic plans for local / national workshops for youth workers and young people with the use of sport as a method for involving immigrants, which will be held by our participants in the post-training follow-up phase
  • Establish a Community of young trainers and youth workers for youth sports inclusion and ICL.

The training course will last 9 days and will be held from 29. September to 8. October 2018 with 32 participants, trainers and staff from 9 organizations and countries (DE, RS, BA, XK, ME, MK, HR, SI and SE).

This project will contribute to the development of the capacity of partner organizations in the field of youth in general and the development of youth workers. Trainers for youth and youth workers will be empowered, inspired and motivated to become more active in organizations and communities. Partner organizations will advance their own work with youth work related to sport and Erasmus + projects, and thus the indirect involvement of young people and intercultural learning.

We expect an increase in the number of young people who will be involved in the activities of organizations, through increasing the quality of inclusive youth work related to youth sports as a long-term perspective of duplication and sustainable impact. Increased involvement and cultural awareness in communities.
