Since 2007, Gender Equality Prevention Program – Youth Initiative (YMI) in Western Balkans – works on the development of gender equality and attitudes among young people, as well as on the reduction of violence by young men and peer violence in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia.
In 2010 the YMI Program has been extended to Kosovo and since 2013 to Albania. Conducted by the CARE Balkans, with the technical support of the Promundo Institute and the International Women’s Research Center (ICRW), this program opposed the social norms related to masculinity and violence through educational workshops organized in schools and social marketing campaigns targeted at young people 15 -19 years.
The purpose of this review and analysis of literature is to provide an insight into the health and well-being challenges faced by young men in the region of South East Europe.
